dupe and yanju are getting married this month, and i can’t wait to photograph their wedding. for the engagement session, we met a couple of times to do short quick shoots. and it was all fun. enjoy.  big shout out to my assistant, dami.

my good friends, dele and jide, came down to visit dc a couple of weeks ago. so we decided to do a quick engagement session in georgetown before dinner.  these two are one of the coolest couples ever, with such great personalities.  jide is an excellent photographer based in london (check out his blog here).

can’t wait to hang out with them again soon.

in an attempt to answer commonly asked questions, i’m introducing a FAQs category to my blog. today’s post is about engagement sessions. here are 2 questions commonly asked, with my answers and some helpful tips.

do you offer one? yes!
do i really need one? it’s entirely up to you.

the benefits are great, but i don’t think you MUST have one (don’t feel pressured). but i’d like to focus on some of the benefits.

• quality time. an engagement session is a good opportunity to spend some quality time with your photographer before your wedding day. your photographer will be with you through out the day of your wedding, even more than most of your guests. so any opportunity to get to know your photographer is good.
• get used to the camera. chances are you’re not used to having your picture taken, constantly (unless you’re a celebrity). so this is an opportunity to get comfortable in front of a fancy camera.
• style. it’s also another opportunity for the photographer to know what kind of poses you’re comfortable with. also, you’ll get to be more confident in your photographer’s style. hopefully.
• more photographs. you’ll have the photographs to hold on to. you can use it for save-the-date, guest sign-in books at your wedding, image displays at your wedding, wedding websites, photo books, etc. (i’ll post another blog with the many products i offer).

how much? here’s the good news. as of now, it’s FREE for my wedding clients.  i include it in every one of my wedding packages. in other words, you book me, you get an engagement session if you want one.  this is subject to change. in fact, it’ll change very very soon.   and in case you’re not hiring me for your wedding (for whatever reason), i charge a modest session fee. contact me for more details.   this is no longer free. however, i do offer a very deep discount to my clients.

where should we have our engagement session? anywhere really. it’s best if we collaborate on a location that you’re comfortable with.

what should we wear? wear anything you’re comfortable in. anything that would show off your best assets.  i strongly recommend not wearing anything with a big ‘ol logo. and if possible, avoid wearing stripes. but more importantly, wear something that is you! oh…and bring a couple of outfits if you want ;-).  you can bring props or incorporate themes into your engagement sessions…as long as it’s YOUR style.

whether you’re newly engaged, married for years, or simply in love,  ”engagement sessions” are perfect for you.

i’m very much inspired by movies when i do photo sessions. that’s why i’m loving these photos.  enjoy tolu and yinka’s engagement session.

i love engagement sessions. i just love photographing two people, madly deeply in love, and super anxious/excited about their wedding day. kemi and kenny were no exception. we did their engagement session in washington, dc only days before the wedding. and i had a blast during the short time we had that mid afternoon.  they both have a great loving spirit about them, and i felt honored to be part of their wedding.  thanks guys for including me in your circle of friends. kenny is also a wonderful photographer, so i had to bust out my old school camera for him to use. i can’t wait to post the wedding pictures. in the mean time, here are just a few of the pictures from the engagement session.
